As a graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Daniel has had a lifelong passion for drawing and painting. At the age of eleven, while visiting a distant relative who was painting a beautiful oil landscape, he knew without a doubt what he was meant to become.
With a focus on portraiture, Daniel has created a collection of works that includes both people and pets. Below you will find procedures and pricing information for commissions.
Steps in Commissioning a Portrait
1. Initial Consultation
Contact the artist to arrange an initial conversation or visit. During this meeting, you will discuss the preferred medium (oil, watercolor, pastel, or drawing).
2. Planning the Portrait
Consider the following:
- What size will the portrait be?
- Where will it be displayed?
- Will sittings take place in the studio or at another location?
A portrait painted from life generally requires a minimum of two sittings of approximately two hours each, supported by photographic reference.
The artist may also work from studies and preparatory photographs. This is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Source of Reference Photography
It is important to understand that Daniel works only from photographs he has taken himself. His approach to photography is guided by his trained eye and sensitivities as a painter.
Photography Fees
In principle, there is no additional charge for the photo session, as it is considered part of the commission. However, if the portrait commission is terminated and the client wishes to retain the photographs, a fee of $75 will be charged to cover time and materials. The photographs will be delivered on a CD.
The only additional photography cost would be travel expenses for locations more than 50 miles from the studio. Daniel is willing to travel worldwide, with clients covering travel expenses plus a reasonable fee for his time.
